Visiting Vancouver Island

Plan your winter or spring visit to Vancouver Island and check out a wide range of excellent attractions, premier events and festivals, and a wealth of welcoming cities and towns. A visit in late 2016 will yield some very fun holiday festivities, and when your trek has you exploring the island in early 2017, don’t miss any of the vibrant springtime adventures in cities like Nanaimo and Campbell River.

Vancouver Island, you’ll discover soon enough, is loaded with exciting things to see and do. During any winter visit to Vancouver Island, some skiing should be in order – and 2016 will be no different. Just outside of Courtenay you’ll find the Mountain Washington Alpine Ski Area.

Complete with night skiing, Mount Washington also features snowshoeing, snow tubing, and several terrain parks. The winter ski season at Mount Washington kicks off on December 9th and typically goes until mid-March.

Make sure you include a stay in Tofino to your tour of Vancouver Island. Charming and found just outside the Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino will yield fun for the whole group this winter and spring. From November 17th to 19th you can check out the 19th Annual Clayoquot Oyster Festival. Celebrate one of Tofino’s top industries this fall at venues and parks found along the Clayoquot Sound.

Any visit to Vancouver Island should most certainly include an extended stay in Victoria. You’ll find can’t-miss attractions like Fort Rodd Hill, Inner Harbour, and the very unique Victoria Bug Zoo, and a host of exceptional events slated for late 2016 and into early 2017.

On January 5th you’ll want to visit the Alix Goolden Hall at the Victoria Conservatory of Music for an evening with Henry Rollins. Known internationally for his rock music – Black Flag, Henry Rollins Band – Rollins is also a motivational speaker and humorist. Check out his show in Victoria starting at 8 p.m. for a truly unique and memorable experience. The drive in from Sidney should be quick along the Pacific Bay Highway.

Jazz fans are sure to make their way to the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium on January 21st. You’ll be in for one of the musical performances of early 2017 in Victoria when the Remi Bolduc Jazz Ensemble performs A Tribute to Dave Brubeck.
