The Butchart Gardens light up the Saturday night skies with the spectacular fireworks beginning June 29th. Enjoy the show and stick around after for the Aeolian Pipe Organ Recital in the loft at the Organ Pavilion. July in Nanaimo brings the excitement and festivities of the Nanaimo Marine Festival and World Championship Bathtub Race. Branded the Salmon Capital of the World, Campbell River on Victoria Island’s northeast shore welcomes summer anglers. From wilderness adventures in Strathcona Provincial Park, to the urban of excitement of Victoria – discover Vancouver Island.
Topaz Park, just north of downtown Victoria, hosts the 2013 Island Summer Games June, 29th and 30th. Vancouver Island’s multi-sport summer competition features the 14th Harbour 3 on 3 Basketball Classic, ball hockey and soccer among the events. Join a team or come out and enjoy the fun at Topaz Park located at Blanshard Street and Finlayson Street.
Tofino, along Vancouver Islands Pacific Coast, challenges runners with the 2013 Edge 2 Edge Marathon, June 9th. Marking the14th year for the marathon, events also include a half marathon and relay. Tofino hosts the start of the marathon with the course running along Chesterman Beach and south through Victoria Island’s Pacific Rim National Park, with the finish in Ucluelet. The half marathon out-and-back course start and finish is, again, in Ucluelet.
Victoria’s Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre host’s one of Western Canada’s largest musical events July 13th and 14th. The Victoria Military Music Festival Society presents the The 2013 Pacific Tattoo, showcasing military and civilian drill teams, marching bands and dance teams. After a successful inaugural event at Bear Mountain Arena, the Pacific Tattoo moves to SOFMC for the 2013 show.
Duncan, in the heart of British Columbia’s Cowichan Valley Region, celebrates summer the entire month of July. The 2013 Duncan Summer Festival actually runs June 28th through August 4th, fitting the theme The 39 Days of July. Duncan’s Charles Hoey Park hosts daily entertainment, along with events at venues across Duncan.
