Maan Farms, Abbotsford BC
The Vancouver metropolitan area yields dozens of agritourist sites throughout the city and Vancouver Coast Mountains.
Farms, gardens, dairies, and orchards welcome guests throughout the year, so get ready for some agritourism in western BC.
Set at the University of British Columbia’s south campus, the UBC Farm is a 24-hectare “living laboratory” used as a farm, animal habitat, and research facility.
Open to the public, the UBC Farm features tours, farm sales, and agricultural workshops.
Just southeast of Vancouver, Langley offers more public farms and gardens. For those with the family in tow, be sure to visit Krause Berry Farms for carriage rides, a petting farm, and the U-Pick Field – where visitors may pick their own berries and crops.
Hungry? Visit On the Porch for farm fresh snacks like fruit pies, kettle corn, and milkshakes – most of which is also found at the Krause Berry Farm Market. Langley also features the 10-acre Vista D’oro Farms, offering Al Fresco picnics, onsite seasonal preserves, and Flowers From A Country Garden – a flower farm allowing guests to pick their own flowers and shop through farm products.
Dairy fans, head to Abbotsford for Birchwood Dairy tours, and the Bakerview EcoDairy Learning Centre – an impressive demonstration farm offering guided tours, animal exhibits, and a learning centre. Set in the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford also yields Maan Farms – a kid-friendly berry and vegetable farm bursting with festivities, food, and new animal friends.
An eastern suburb of Vancouver, Chilliwack features even more agritourism in western BC. Visit Fantasy Farms for seasonal events like the Chilliwack Garlic Festival, while gardening enthusiasts need see Minter Gardens – also home to the Chilliwack Farmer's Market.
More agritourist sites are found throughout the Vancouver area. Visit Honeybee Enterprises in Surrey, Silverhill Apple Orchard in Mission, and the Rutledges at Do-Little Farms in Maple Ridge. For more local produce, visit Avalon Dairy – BC’s oldest operating dairy – in Burnaby for certified organic and conventional dairy products.
