Vancouver’s Stanley Park welcomes spring and summer visitors with the sight of Lost Lagoon, Siwash Rock, the Hollow Tree, and Prospect Point among the well-known destinations. It's light on at Vancouver’s historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, June 17th for opening night with the Vancouver Canadians baseball team, marking the start of the 2013 season. Less than 10-miles from the southern British Columbia border, the city of Abbotsford hosts the 2013 Run for Water, May 26th. The Envision Financial Run for Water events includes a marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K run, with an Ultra Marathon distance run on Abbottsford Discovery Trail on May 25th. Choose your distance and enjoy a flat course through the scenic Sumas Prairie.
The metro Vancouver community of Coquitlam launches summer with the 2013 Festival Coquitlam beginning with the Como Lake Fishing Derby on May 26th. Presented by the Festival Coquitlam Society, events continue through the June 15th Lafarge Lake Annual Free Fishing Day. The weekend of June 8th and 9th features the Coquitlam Grande Parade and Teddy Bear Family Concert and Picnic.
The Vancouver suburb of Surrey, south of Coquitlam across the Fraser River, kicks off summer fun with a diversity of events. Surrey’s Historic Stewart Farm hosts the Royal Victorian Party 2013 celebrating Queen Victoria’s birthday on May 19th. The following week, the 2013 Surrey Children’s Festival fills Surrey Arts Centre & Bear Creek Park with fun and activities geared for the kids.
Rodeo fans don’t miss the Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair, south of Surrey, May 17th through 20th. The Cloverdale Fairgrounds hosts five Rodeo performances and four days of family fun at the 125th Country Fair. Cloverdale is a short 10-mile drive south of Surrey.
Among the highlights of summer in Vancouver is the 2013 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society in Vancouver presents British Columbia’s biggest arts and music festival June 21st through July 1st. Downtown Vancouver venues host over 300 concerts featuring more than 1800 artists making the Vancouver International Jazz Festival a signature festivals.
