British Columbia boasts several impressive ski areas in its northern regions. Ski areas above Prince George features hundreds of kilometers of ski runs, and more downhill fun than you may be able to handle.
Head to northwest B.C. for ski parks like Shames Mountain and Ski Smithers. Shames is set 35 kilometers from Terrace, and features 141 skiable acres with 28 runs – the longest of which is four kilometers.
Shames yields a top elevation of 1,189 meters, with a vertical drop of 488 meters. Located on Hudson Bay Mountain, Ski Smithers is the largest of northern B.C.'s ski areas, and features 35 runs over 300 acres – plus the RAYZ Terrain Park.
The B.C. city of Dawson Creek boasts nearby ski areas as well. Set just outside of the city, Bear Mountain Ski Hill is an intimate ski park featuring 10 runs and seven cross-country ski trails – as well as an onsite terrain park.
Just over 200 kilometers from Dawson Creek, the Powder King Mountain Resort features 1,475 skiable acres in the Northern Rockies’ Hart Ranges. Visitors may look forward to a top elevation of 1,829 meters and 24 runs – the longest being 366 meters.
Closer to north-central B.C., two ski areas are found along the BC Highway 16 – both just north of Quesnel and east of Prince George. Tabor Mountain Alpine Resort offers 12 runs over 180 skiable acres, plus a terrain park and onsite restaurant. From there, make your way east 45 kilometers to Purden Ski Village featuring 25 runs – the longest being the two-mile Lakeview Trail.
