Most Popular Area Attractions

Bear Creek Provincial Park

Spanning 178 hectares on the shores of Okanagan Lake, Bear Creek Provincial Park is one of eastern British Columbia's most popular destinations, especially in the summertime. The park features over 400 metres of coarse sandy beaches, stretching from the lake to the namesake Bear Creek - visitors can swim, water ski, canoe and kayak.

On land, the park stretches back into the mountains with 5 kilometres of hiking trails. Lookout points of the lake are plenty, while avid hikers are sure to explore the Bear Creek canyon carved into the bedrock. And once the day's fun is done, you can relax at the park's day-use area - picnic tables, BBQ stations, playgrounds and grassy fields await you. This park is located near the Kelowna area.

Davison Orchards Country Village

Embrace fall in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of central British Columbia. Travel a few miles west of Vernon to visit the Davison Orchards Country Village. The Davison family started their farm in 1933, with an orchard of Macintosh apple trees.

Throughout the years, the Davisons continued the business, growing it into a wonderful Country Market and Village. Step into the Country Market to browse the selection of home-made baked goods, jams, farm produce and a variety of soaps, candles and gifts.

Kids love riding tricycles and climbing on the riding lawnmower in the farm-themed playground and visiting the farm animals in the Critter Corral. Partake in the Johnny Popper Orchard Tour to learn more about the history of the farm.

If you love pumpkins, be sure to visit the farm for the annual Family Pumpkin Fest, featuring everything pumpkin. Take a break for a delicious piece of pie or a meal in Auntie May's Deep Dish Cafe, located in the original farm house.

Canadian Pacific Trail Car 3619

An iconic historical landmark, the Kettle Valley Steam Railway near Penticton runs across ten miles of beautiful country, orchards, and vineyards.

Built in the 1910's, the railway preserves the track that used to carry the region's fruit to the Pacific Ocean and beyond - today, it now offers visitors a 90 minute ride through some of British Columbia's pristine countryside.

A vintage passenger coach, an open air car, observation games, musical entertainment, and exuberant anecdotes meticulously recapture life in 1912, the railroad's main era.

Departures times vary per season and day – the train is regularly open from May to October and hosts several special events, including the Easter train, the Great Train Robbery, and the Christmas Express.

Lake Okanagan

Spend a Day Exploring Lake Okanagan

Beauty abounds in Central British Columbia. When traveling in this picturesque area of the province, be sure to visit Lake Okanagan, in the Okanagan Valley.

This 135km long lake stretches to nearly five km wide in some areas and reaches a depth of up to 232 meters deep.

Post-glacial sediment from the Pleistocene Epoch era can still be found in the lake. Visitors to the south end of the lake, will see the water flowing over the dam and draining into the Okanagan River.

Many cities surround this impressive lake. Vernon is to the north, Kelowna is to the east, Penticton is to the south and West Kelowna is on the west side of the lake.

Enjoy a day at the lake by relaxing on one of the many beaches around the lake, swimming in the water, boating on the water or fishing for rainbow trout. Some legends claim that the lake is home to Ogopogo, a lake monster.

Beneath the waters of tranquil Okakangan Lake lies a mysterious, perhaps fearsome creature, Ogopogo, the Okanagan Lake monster (or so the legend goes). Assumed to be 12 to 15 metre sea serpent, Ogopogo was first sighted way back in 1872 and has continually perplexed residents, tourists, and enthusiasts to this day.

If you find yourself on the shores of this eastern British Columbia lake, you will easily find opportunities to learn more about the monster and its history - anecdotal signs are posted around the lakes and there is a honorary statue in Kelowna. And for those who just have to see, there are plenty of guided boat tours across the lake - just make sure you have your camera ready. You never know.

Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm

This beautiful farm acts as a feast for your senses - delight in the sights of picture-perfect Okanagan Lake and smell the lavender at Okanagan Lavender Herb Farm. Visitors to this Kelowna farm are greeted by rows and rows of gorgeous and vibrant purple fields harboring over 60 kinds of lavender, where this stunning display is matched with its relaxing, distinctive fragrance.

Family owned, the eastern British Columbia farm allows for visitors to take home a number of souvenirs - there's a pick-your-own stems bed and a country store featuring handmade lavender products, including wreaths and beauty products. And to top the day off, enjoy a glass of lavender lemonade or a bowl of lavender ice cream.

Silver Star Mountain Resort

One thing is for certain in Central and British Columbia – it snows in the winter. This snowfall makes winter fun, for those who enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Silver Star Mountain Resort, located fourteen miles northeast of Vernon, receives an average of twenty-three feet of snow each year covering 3,065 acres of skiable terrain.

The resort's twelve chairlifts accommodate approximately 14,000 people each hour, providing access to the 115 marked trails. Ranging from easiest to extreme, there are plenty of ski runs for every level of skier or snowboarder.

The Rockstar Terrain Park features rails and jumps for beginner, intermediate and advanced snowboarders. The resort also offers sixty miles of Nordic ski trails, night skiing and 270,000 skiable acres for Heli Skiing.

Ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snow tubing and horse sleigh rides round out the winter fun at the resort. Start making memories at this incredible ski resort.
