Enjoy a Vast Array of Exciting and Entertaining Festivals
Check out Vancouver and a wide range of fun festivals
A trip to British Columbia usually means some time in Vancouer is on the horizon. Vancouver and nearby cities like Abbotsford and Surrey host a number of festivals throughout the year, sure to make your visit a memorable one.
Whether you're in town for the Vancouver International Film Festival, or the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair in Abbotsford, you're in for a uniquely fun and Canadian experience.
Fans of the cinema flock to Vancouver in late September for the annual Vancouver Film Festival. One of the largest film festivals in North America, the VIFF screens more than 300 films from over 70 countries, on average, at screens across the area – Vancity Theatre, Rio Theatre, and The Cinematheque, just to name a few.
Since 1982, the VIFF has worked to showcase the "best in contemporary Canadian and international cinema." Make the short drive into downtown Vancouver from nearby cities like Richmond, Burnaby, and Coquitlam.
In early September, Vancouver hosts the Vancouver Fringe Festival, an 11-day celebration of on stage theatre. The Fringe, as it's known by fans and locals, survives by a "everyone is welcome" motto, and strives to promote a positive and entertaining showcase of talented actors, writers, and performers.
Every year during the last weekend in the July, discover the Caribbean Days Festival, hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago Society of BC. During the Caribbean Days Festival, held at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver, enjoy a wide range of impressive dance performances, live music, and an eclectic blend of food vendors. Enjoy the Beer Garden, Juice Bar, any number of the arts & crafts tents, and a children's play area.
If your plans involve a visit to Surrey, be sure to check out The Barn Fall Antique Show. Once known as the Antique Expo at Tradex, The Barn Fall Antique Show is held in early October at the Cloverdale Rodeo & Exhibition Grounds in Surrey. Make the drive in from nearby Aldergrove or Langley and check out a unique and fun selection of antiques.
One of the more charming and pleasant festivals you'll discover on your fall visit into the Vancouver area is the Mt. Lehman Fall Fair. Held at the Mt. Lehman Community Hall in Abbotsford, this all day festival is an ideal destination for families traveling with kids – check out the petting zoo, the pet parade, snack shack, and even the burger bus.
Whenever you choose to visit the Vancouver area, keep these festivals in mind as you plan your daily agenda. From Caribbean dance festivals to antiques and independent films – you'll find it in Vancouver.
