From rodeos to Riverboat Days in Terrace – Visit Northern BC

Across the vast and scenic landscape of northern British Columbia, you'll find cities like Terrace and Quesnel – inviting, eclectic, and home to some of the most unique and impressive festivals and events in the province.

Whether it's the Riverboat Days in Terrace, or the Dawson Creek Exhibition Pro Rodeo & Fall Fair Parade in Dawson Creek, you're sure to find you time in northern BC pleasant and entertaining.

Explore the city of Terrace in August and check out Riverboat Days. An early August tradition, Riverboat Days is a week-long celebration of the heritage, culture and vitality of area.

Check out art displays from local artists, theatre performances, live music, a wide range of food vendors at the Taste of Terrace event, historical tours, and even sports events for all ages – you won't want to miss out on the Terrace Riverboat Days. The kids will certainly enjoy the Fireworks over Ferry Island event.

Continuing an exploration of Terrace, many visitors enjoy a trek through the Skeena Valley Farmers' Market. From the first Saturday in May through the last one in October, the Skeena Valley Farmers' Market is unique: Terrace is the furthest location north in BC where fruit trees can be grown, so you'll find a unique and, often times hard to find, variety of fruits. The Skeena Valley Farmers' Market closes up shop at 1PM.

Along the border of BC and Alberta, north of Valemount, discover Dawson Creek. A quaint city, Dawson Creek is home of the Dawson Creek Exhibition Pro Rodeo & Fall Fair Parade. Typically help the second weekend in August, the Dawson Creek Exhibition Pro Rodeo & Fall Fair Parade features professional Chuckwagon races, a "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" fund raiser, and plenty of traditional carnival and fair entertainment for the kids.

In Quesnel, directly west of Valemount, visit during the spring and check out the Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts. A celebration of local performance art, this month-long festival begins, typically, in the middle of March and runs through mid-April. There are four categories of performance art: Dance, Vocal & Choral, Piano, and Speech & Dramatic Arts.

For the cavalier explorer looking to visit the northern-most reaches of BC, head for Whitehorse and check out the Adaka Cultural Festival. Launched in 2011, the Adaka Cultural Festival celebrates the First Nations of the area every June, high lighting the creativity of the First Nation people in northern BC and Yukon.

An August visit to Whitehorse should lead you to the Klondike Harvest Fair held at Shipyards Park – enjoy an array of fruits and veggies locally grown during summer. Every Ferbruary, Whitehorse hosts the launch of Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile Dog Sled Race. Established in 1984, the Yukon Quest follows old gold rush trails beginning in Whitehorse and culminating with the finish in Fairbanks, Alaska.
