Crystal Ridge Sled Ski Area
Unique and the first of its kind, the Crystal Ridge Sled Ski Area sits on eastern British Columbia's Mount Diefenbaker near Valemount. Skiers and snowboarders alike make the trek to the four run mountain, where traditional ski lifts are replaced with snowmobiles and towing sleds. Taking turns operating the snowmobiles, riders and skiers can pair up and tow in groups, share different shifts, or go up at their own pace.
Since there are no lifts to operate at this public assisted facility, the ski area is free for all those who make the trek down the 14 kilometre access trail. Once there, they are greeted with four runs that descend 2,200 vertical feet and last for two kilometres. The runs are best optimized for the adventurous and experienced skier or boarder who love shredding up amazing powder. The project is operated by the Valemount Area Recreation Development Association.
